Term Paper Checklist
Dear Philosophers of Science,
Please attend to the following items in preparing your papers for submission:
¨ Thesis statement appears on the paper's first or second page in bold face print. (See the
Thesis Statement/Outline Assignment for instructions on how to properly construct a
thesis statement.)
¨ Thesis statement "controls" the content of the paper, i.e., every sentence contributes in some
obvious or recognizable way to the explanation or defense of the thesis statement.
¨ At least three scholarly sources have been effectively used in the paper and properly cited.
Example of correct citation within the text: "All reasonings concerning matter of
fact seem to be founded on the relation of Cause and Effect" (Hume 1998, p. 16).
¨ Correctly constructed Literature Cited page has been attached. Example of citation:
Hume, David (1998), Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, second edition, edited by
Richard H. Popkin (Indianapolis: Hackett).
¨ Paper is 8-10 pages in length (no cover page), including Literature Cited page.
¨ Paper is secured by a paper clip, not stapled. (Papers may be photocopied.)
¨ 12 point font has been used, with double-spaced text, one inch margins.
¨ Pages are numbered consecutively.
¨ Paper has been proof-read and is free of spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors.
¨ This completed, signed Paper Checklist is included with the paper, with each item checked
indicating that you confirm that each of the requirements herein set forth have been satisfied
in your paper. Do not check an item unless your paper satisfies that requirement!
