Remains of Tyuonyi Pueblo (Frijoles
Canyon, Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico)
Occupied c. 1300-1550 A.D.; descendants of the Anasazi who lived here are now
said to live in the present-day Pueblo of San Ildefonso, to the north. Much
of this site and its environs remains unexcavated.
Visible to the left-of-center within the circle of the pueblo's foundations
is an excavated kiva, one of three such traditional subterranean
ceremonial rooms found at the site (click here
for a detailed close-up).
