Biographical Sketch

Dr. Kalbers is a full professor, the R. Chad Dreier Chair in Accounting, and the director of the Center for Accounting Ethics, Governance, and the Public Interest at Loyola Marymount University. He earned a B.A at Wittenberg University, a M.S. at Kent State University, and a Ph.D. from Penn State University. Before joining Loyola Marymount in 2005, he was a professor of accounting, the director of the School of Professional Accountancy, and the associate dean of the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Kalbers also has taught at Wittenberg University, Penn State University, and John Carroll University. His teaching interests are in the areas of auditing, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and ethics. Kalbers gained auditing and accounting experience working for J.K. Lasser & Co., Ernst & Ernst, Kalbers and Sturges, Inc., Ernst & Young, and as a sole practitioner. He also has served as treasurer for several not-for-profit organizations. He holds a current CPA permit from New York and Ohio.

Kalbers has published articles on a variety of topics, including audit committees and corporate governance, professionalism, auditor burnout, auditor organizational commitment, accounting education, and accounting history. His articles have appeared in Accounting and Business Research, Accounting Education: An International Journal, Accounting Educators' Journal, Accounting Today, Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Internal Auditor, Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Accounting Education, Journal of Managerial Issues, Management Accounting, Managerial Auditing Journal, Mid-American Journal of Business, and The Ohio CPA Journal. In addition to published research, Kalbers has presented at numerous academic and professional conferences. He also has been active in academic and professional associations. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the California Society of CPAs.
