  Don't forget, there is a collection of exercises due on Wednesday that will count as a problem.  (In other words, everybody is responsible for turning in solutions.)

Today-

  • Discuss the assumptions behind many of the equations we've studied this semester.
  • Take another look at Gauss' Law in two sample exercises
  • Look at potentials due to point charges
  • Talk briefly about dipoles (Many of the euqations in today's reading assignment aren't fundamental.  What is more important is understanding how the dipoles behave in electric fields in a qualitative way.) (equations 25-9, 25-13, 25-14 and the concepts behind them are the highlights)
