September 11- Charged Particles in Electric Fields






  Last time we looked at a collection of 5 point charges distributed on a semicircle and found the electric field at the center.  What if we added more charges to the semicircle?  Let's say we add an infinite number of small charges, what would the electric field be at the center?

Conceptually, we do the exact same thing we did before- find the electric field due to a small charge, and then add up the electric fields due to all of the charges.

Since we have many small charges our summation becomes an integral.
