  Lenz's Law

Before we compute some numerical solutions, let's do the qualitative.
 
 

The induced emf and induced current are in such a direction as to oppose the change that produces them.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Determine the direction of the induced current for each of the three cases.  Let's agree that we're looking at the loop from above, so the current can be described as counterclockwise, clockwise or zero.

 
 

Again, what matters is not the value of the flux, but rather the change of the flux.
