Application of magnetic force- Hall Effect

Edwin Herbert Hall discovered the "Hall effect" in 1879 while working on his doctoral thesis in Physics.  Dr. Hall was pursuing the question as to whether the resistance of a coil excited by a current was affected by the presence of a magnet.  What he found has even greater implications.

There is a current passing through a slab of metal which has a uniform magnetic field eprpendicular to it.

We can use the data to determine the drift velocity of the charges as well as the number of charges per unit volume.

Hall probes can used to measure magnetic fields once they are callibrated.
