Physics 101- Introduction to Mechanics
February 20- Applications of Newton's Laws

  Nonzero accelration motion

This class has an object moving with a constant acceleration in a linear fashion.  The uniform circular situations have a constant acceleration, but the motion is not linear.

Write down all of the forces and then be sure to include the "ma" term which is no longer zero.  As always, we're simply using Newton's Second Law.

A 65 kg person is standing on a bathroom scale in an elevator moving downward.  If the scale reads 720N, what is the magnitude and direction of the elevatorís acceleration?
