  Unifrom Circular Motion

Recall that when we examined the motion of an object moving in a circle, at a constant speed, we found an acceleration equal to:

In order to have this acceleration, there must be a force (or combination of forces) that provides this acceleration.

  • Draw a vector indicating the direction of the acceleration of the car.
  • Draw a free-body diagram for the car.
  • If m= 100 kg, v= 10 m/s and r= 20 m find:
    • The magnitude of the carís acceleration.
    • The magnitude of the net force acting on the car
    • The magnitudes of all of the forces in your free-body diagram.

Why are roads, particularly highway off ramps, banked?
