Consider a horizontally launched projectile (much ike what we'll do in lab this week). Notice how the horizontal component of the velocity is constant, there is no horizontal acceleration. The vertical component of the velocity is given by v_y (t)= a_y t, where a_y = -9.8m/s² and the y position is y (t)= y_o + v_oyt + 1/2a_y t² (here v_oy= 0).
