Physics 101- Introduction to Mechanics
January 28- Acceleration & Free Fall

Free Fall (near the surface of the earth)

  • It is a reasonable approximation that objects fall with constant acceleration when near the surface of the earth.  IF you neglect air resistance.
  • It wasnít until Galileo that anybody carefully observed what was going on.  He noticed that the mass doesnít affect the rate of acceleration.

The average acceelartion (due to gravity) on earth is approximately 9.8 m/s2 or 32 ft/s2
