  Can a vector have zero magnitude if one of its components is not equal to zero?  Explain.

Given the two displacement vectors in the figure- draw and label a vector C which represents the sum A + B.  Also, draw and label a vector D which represents the difference A - B.

A displacement vector in the xy plane is 15 m long and directed as shown in the figure.  Determine the x and y components of the vector.

A person desires to reach a point that is 2.4 km from her present location and in a direction that is 25.0° north of east.  However, she must travel along streets that are oriented either north-south or east-west.  What is the minimum distance she could travel to reach her destination?
