Physics 101- Introduction to Mechanics
February 1- Vectors & 2-D Motion

  Today:
  • A copy of the textbook as well as Student Solutions Manual are now on reserve at the library.  The manual has (rough) solutions for many odd problems- useful when studying for tests.
  • Vectors
    • A vector is a quantity with both a length and a direction.
    • Vectors can be described by a series of numbers (components) or by a direction and length (magnitude).
    • We can add or subtract vectors graphically or numerically.
  • 2-D motion
    • Much more common than 1-D motion.
    • May appear to be more complicated, but actually involves no new physics.
    • Each component can be assumed to be independent of each other.
