How did the course change the students? Did the students achieve the desired outcomes? We investigate this here. The reader following this link should first take a quick look over the student descriptions. Next looking at the case study of Neal will give an idea of what type of changes are possible and that I look for. The Final Exam, Student Projects, and reflective comments, all include some analysis of whether certain outcomes were met. Finally, the student generated discussions link talks about one of the interesting surprises in the class, that we engaged in student generated mathematical discussions in the course.
This sequence argues that the course worked in achieving its objectives and also brought about desirable changes in how the students viewed the role of higher level mathematics for high school teaching and teachers. Moreover, it presents some description of what cultural and attitudinal changes need to be effected to get deep mathematical conversations as part of such a class.
